It looks and feels like summer is categorically over. Boo! Hiss! Don’t worry, we’re in denial too. I resisted fishing out my winter coat and instead tried leaving the house defiantly in a cardigan, but that autumn breeze sent me marching straight back indoors with my tail between my legs. September is the time to start the gradual cross over from sandals to socks (or maybe try both at once).

Autumn Beyond Skin - 2

The temperature shifts your attitude as well. In the summer, it’s hard to honestly focus at work when the sun is beating down outside and you can see a mirage of a thriving cocktail bar on the street below whenever you look out the window. But when autumn kicks in and the weather no longer beckons you outside, it’s time to knuckle down. Our ethical outfit matchmaking ideas have officially expired. That’s why we’ve thrown together three office wear outfits that go just swell with our Autumn Winter ‘16 collection.

One of the main things to watch out for when buying warm clothes for chillier weather is that coats and jumpers tend to be made of wool. Of course you may already be familiar with wool production, but for those who aren’t, here’s a brief background. Although it’s not immediately obvious, the production of wool overlooks animal welfare. As the shearers are generally paid for the amount of wool they shear, their main concern is to be fast, rather than careful or gentle. If you want to read more about the wool industry, PETA has some illuminating (and upsetting) information.

Bearing that in mind, we’ve found some tip top autumnal outfits that are blissfully wool-free, and certainly don’t compromise on style or cosiness.

  1. Mini Disk Earrings in Brass, People Tree, £8. Handmade by Bombolulu, a Fair Trade social business in Kenya that provides opportunities for people with physical disabilities. 2. White Stripes Shoulder Bag, Nasty Gal, £51.08. Made with black vegan leather. We’re bowled over by the bold as brass zip details, giving this look a gritty urban feel.
