Happy World Ocean Day everyone! A day of celebration and a potent reminder on a Friday that you wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for this glorious pool of water and we need to treat it with the reverence it deserves.
World Ocean Day is an initiative that focusses on preventing plastic pollution in the ocean, and encouraging solutions to keep the Ocean healthy.
Here are three of the biggest plastic related problems and how to solve them:
- Plastic Bags
Plastic bags are pointless and pathetic (sorry), and you can get gorgeous canvas and tote alternatives for an absolute snip so why bother with them? Be a legend and just stop using them. Get your shopping delivered perhaps, as although you have the issue of pollution, the vans go to enough houses for it to be environmentally more effective than everyone going in their cars. Or just buy yourself a nice tote or a big basket and be done with the hassle of constantly having plastic bags around; we all know that every house has a bag of bags and we could all do with downsizing. All those 5ps add up anyway.
Today is World Oceans Day… which means there is no better day to decide to #passonplastic 🐢🐳🦈🐠🐙🐡 #Repost @free_from_plastic with @get_repost ・・・ Everyday picture of our oceans. Please think twice when using plastic bags. 2. Plastic Bottles
We all have the urge for a bottled drink once in a while, and I would hate to be a plastic fascist. But recycling them is so easy- and fun! Make a wind chime. Cut holes in it and make an instrument. Or just put it in a recycling bin or keep it and refill it. If you always want water when you’re out, take some, and spend the savings on a real instrument. If it’s soda that always takes your fancy, consider a soda stream for hours of fun and respect to the ocean.
Straws, straws, straws. A bone for contention for some as we all just seem to love them, don’t we. Everybody is obsessed by having a straw, myself included, but just suck it up. If you love them so much then you could always develop a charming quirk and be the guy who carries their own metal straw. If the addiction has taken to much of a strong hold, keep your straw between drinks and each time you get a new one say, “I can use my straw again.” Simple but effective until you kick the habit.
